For the Love of Books

children are made readers on the lap of their parents
 - emilie buchwald

I love that quote.
When I see Matthew 'reading' his books on his own, it makes me smile.
I love to listen to his daddy read books to him.
Matthew's little library of books started here and I have bought him a few more since then.
I want him to have a love of reading.
And in order for that to happen, it has to start on our laps (just like the quote said).

My favorite time with Alex is with her on my lap while I'm reading a book. And at four months, she's already grabbing onto the pages and trying to turn or play with them! What a fabulous picture of your boys!!!

That is such a great quote (never heard it before) and so true. I love this picture on so many levels!

That is SO TRUE!! And it's a joy to see him interested in his books and enjoying his daddy's voice.

Oh my gosh he is getting so big!!!

I agree with the love of reading. I signed BB up for two book clubs, Disney and Dr. Seuss. I love it. We have been through all of the books she has so far more than a couple of times.

We do the same! Though Oliver seems to like it more when he can turn the pages!

CJ is totally obsessed with his books, especially books with animals! He'll carry his books around the house like a lovey! Last night he was even trying to cuddle with the kittehs in his book! SO cute, and it makes me very happy that this reading habit is starting early!

Great pictures! I caught A in the act one day when she was really quiet in her room, she was just sitting in the rocking chair reading...loved it!

He looks so dang mature sitting there being so attentive to that book. When I was little I LOVED Dr. Seuss books like crazy. I would memorize them word for word.

Just caught up on a few posts--congratulations on being the mommy of a WALKER!! Since he's growing up and becoming more independent, might it be time to think of a baby brother or sister for Matthew? :) Maybe after you get through your big move. I wish I lived closer and could help you pack up the clutter and stage your house. I remember how hard that was and vowed to always help friends who are moving after I saw how difficult it was.

You are so right about reading. I feel like I haven't read enough with Bristol and am trying to make a huge effort to do it more. Jaden and Sienna LOVE books and Jaden is reading wonderfully as a kindergartner. This all is because they started out in my lap :)

I love this post! It actually made me choke up a little bit! ha! Just so sweet to see him "reading" with his daddy! I love the shower idea of signing books instead of cards! I may have to steal that one day. ;)

That's so neat that we have the same camera! I think the "i" is a bit fancier, but I figured I don't know what I'm doing anyway, so the non-i version should be good for us! ;) I hope I'll be able to take pictures as well as you one day! I love seeing Matthew grow month by month! One question- when will the baby modeling start?!! ;)
