We took Matthew to see Santa last night. He was not impressed, even with two candy canes! He wanted to get down.
These were taken with my iPhone.
We managed to get one picture where he wasn't crying or squirmy. He doesn't look thrilled, but hey, we'll take what we can get. I actually like the ones from my iPhone because it really captures how it all went down!
Here's the comparison from last year when he was 10 months. No tears last year. He was much more mesmerized than scared.
At what age is it appropriate to tell kids the truth about santa?? We decided to tell Abbey (with her parents permission, of course) the truth about Santa. We figured she is 9 years old and probably suspects that Santa isn't real. Right?
Well, at first she put on a brave face and said she already knew that the Santas in the mall weren't real. Then she told us that the real santa lives at the North Pole.
We tried to tell her again and she started crying. I felt SO terrible!!
That was all a few weeks ago and since then, I think she has accepted it. She sent me a text a few days afterwards and said that since Santa wasn't real, that WE needed to buy her everything on her christmas list! Uh-oh, what have we done?!
We will be having another conversation with her about the true meaning of Christmas!
Here she is with a friend sitting on Santa's lap at our church christmas party.
I guess the moral of the story is 9 years old is NOT the right age to tell them the truth about Santa!

Matthew is just too adorable! I LOVE his outfit too. The bow tie and the sweater vest are so dapper.
I found out the truth about Santa by accident in 3rd grade. I wasn't pleased. I plan to wait until Tot asks.
I have a 9 and 7 year old and I don't plan on telling them until I have too!! I was told when I was 6 that Santa did not exist.
Oh dear! I can't remember when I found out about Santa, but I don't think there is a right age - I'm sure it depends on the child (and more likely, the child's friends, who will inevitably spill the beans...) - the true meaning of Christmas is what's important anyways! And I LOVE Matthew's pics - the legs say it all - "Get...me...down!" x
Awe poor Abby! I think it just depends on the readiness of the kid; I have some 2nd graders (and even last year some 1st graders) who knew Santa didn't exist, but my friend's 11 year old still believes. It's funny how every kid is different.
Love Matthew's Santa photos! <3
I found out when I was about 10, but I asked. I was told that there was no one person who was Santa, but that each of us is responsible for the spirit of Santa once we know the truth. I was so excited to be an elf that year for my nephew that it wasn't even disappointing.
Oh my gosh! I love the "Mom, what exactly is this you're trying to do to me" face that he has on Santa's lap! Priceless. :)
