Is 30 something the new 40 something??

In one of my recent posts I mentioned how people give unsolicited advice when they find out you are trying to conceive. Ever have anyone tell you that you're still young, yet that statement only makes you FEEL older.

I was watching a show on T.V. recently in which a couple went to see a fertility doctor because they wanted to try to have baby #2. The woman, who was in her mid 30's, just wanted to talk to the doctor to see what she could expect since she was slightly over the age of 35. The doctor proceeded to tell her that women over the age of 35 are at higher risk for miscarriage, chromosonal abnormalities, Fibroids, Endometriosis, Pelvic adhesions, etc. That pretty much put the fear of babymaking into her.

I always thought that you could have babies up to age 40 and once you hit 40, yes, your chances are much higher for those things. (I actually know a few women who have had healthy babies at 40!)

Yes, I do understand, to a certain extent, that as you age pass 35, the risks are much higher. But they make it sound like your doomed once 35 rolls around!

I know...I know.... everyone is different and of course, it's all in the Lord's hands.

I have been told that I am "still young" so many times that I want to scream. Even worse was that after my miscarriages people actually said to me "well at least you know you can GET pregnant." Uggghhhhh. Growing up, the health teachers always make it sound like it is so easy to get pregnant. But they neglect to tell you you how incredibly hard it can be to STAY pregnant.

You are so right.

We've started the Quest (I'm 32) because we know it will take us a few years (thank you, PCOS). If I were a 'normal' (?!) woman, we would have waited a few more years.

Sigh.
