Shared Risk

There are two big fertility centers in the Washington D.C. area. We chose to go with Shady Grove Fertility. They have a program called Shared Risk. The program costs $20K (upfront) and that allows you to do up to six IVF cycles (excludes the cost of meds). And they call it shared risk because if you do not deliver and take a baby home, they will refund 100% of your money. You do not have to do all six cycles and can stop treatment at anytime.

The average costs for an IVF cycle is about $6,500 (plus meds, which can run $2,000-$3,000 a cycle).

Why didn't we pay per cycle?? Well, given my history of miscarriages, we figured this was the best plan for us. And if we get pregnant on the first cycle, then that's one expensive baby! (And that's the risk we take). That's why I secretly pray for twins so I can get my monies worth. But I know that the Lord has a plan for us and we will be blessed with those special spirits waiting to join our family.

Aside from being financially draining, Infertility is also physically, emotionally, and spiritually draining. It really tests your faith. And reality sets in and you just have to really trust in the Lord and know that He knows whats best for us.

Wow, Hannah! I admire your determination! It sounds like the Shared Risk plan is definitely the way to go, especially after having the # of miscarriages you've had. I remember that after I had a miscarriage when I was pregnant the first time, when I got pregnant the 2nd time, I was petrified until I heard the heartbeat for the first time; a little less worried after the ultrasound and that was only allowed by my insurance plan at the time at 18-20 weeks! I know you will be under much more care and concern than I was. Make sure you get a sympathetic OB! And I wasn't able to really sigh with relief until little James was actually handed to me when he was born. Although, I've rarely had a full nights sleep in the last 3 years, and worried constantly for the welfare of this little miracle, it has definitely been worth it! I pray that everything will work out, and that the Lord will smile upon you and Steve! You never know, you might have a little Eli running around, before you know it!

I really hope you are wasting your money! [This sounds terrible but is a well-wish.] ;-)

So sorry for all you've been through with your losses!!!((hugs!))
I think the shared risk program is a good idea. I dont see how that would be wasting your money(although it's really pricey), you get 6 tried with it and if for some reason none of those work, you get your money back. I sure hope it works on your first try and that you get your twins!!! I think they also offer a good deal for embryo storage too.

and thank you SO much for your sweet comment on my blog!!:)
