17w5d - Glucose Fail

Last week I went in for my routine OB appt and they found sugar in my urine so I had to go earlier this week for a 2 hr glocose test.  I think making a pregnant woman fast and then giving her a nasty orange concoction of a drink, which taste like cough syrup and very sweet orange soda, is cruel and unusual punishment. But I survived.

The OB called with my results and told me I had failed.  Anything below 140 is passing.  I was at 145.  Not terrible (in my non-medical opinion), but she said that since I'm on metformin (for my PCOS), it should have regulated my sugar levels.  So now I have to make an appt to see an Endocrinologist AND I have to visit the Diabetic center at the hospital for some 'counseling.'

She also told me that they found blood in my urine so I had to go see my primary doctor about that.  I went yesterday and my primary doctor said they didn't find any blood at all in, but they will send it out to get it cultured and should have the results back next week.

Bottom line is that I have to add another doctor/specialist to my regimen of appointments and I have to really watch what I eat.  No more sweets, cut back on carbs and just get my body moving.  I will do whatever it takes to ensure the baby is healthy and growing.

I'm happy today is Friday!  We are going to a fall festival this weekend and will be taking it easy the rest of the time.  I hope everyone has a great fall weekend!!

Oh bummer. Gestational Diabetes sounds like it would be hard to go through, but I know several women who make it seem like no big deal. So maybe they're tougher than I would be? lol

I took a water aerobics class at the hospital when I was pregnant with Adam and I LOVED it. Got to meet other preggos and keep limber for delivery.

Speaking of meeting others...link up to my party today!

Oh Poohters! :( Probably not a bridge you wanted to cross, but I am sure you get through it with flying colors. Just a litle wake up call :)

BUMMER! Good luck with that! Nothing like tons and tons of doctors' appointments! Just wait until the baby comes...then all the doctors' appointments will revolve around him, and you'll be off the hook! :)

Gestational diabetes isn't fun BUT the good news for me was it made me eat well at the end so I didn't gain as much weight and have since lost it all. They made me check my sugar 4 times a day, inject insulin 3 times a day AND I got to go to a specialist for ultrasounds once a week which I loved!!! (didn't love the injections but then we're all needle pros by now, right?) Hopefully you won't have to do all that - diet and exercise can really help a lot! Anything for the little guy, right?

Bummer about failing! There are worse things though. Thankfully this is something you can manage. Hang in there girlie! :0)

So sorry that you have one more thing to deal with! I hope you get a good, understanding specialist who will help you work through it as easily as possible!
