22 1/2 Months - What Matthew's Been Up To

Matthew said his first sentence today!!
Steve had just walked out of the bedroom and closed the door, then Matthew all of a sudden said, 'Where daddy going?'

I was so excited!

Yesterday he said 'Come on Abbey'.

I can't wait to hear him say more full sentences.  But my favorite is when he says 'peas, peas' (please) when he wants something.

He celebrated his second Christmas this month.  Of course, he didn't have much interest in opening presents, but I'm sure next year is when he will show his excitement!

He's a lover of chocolate and icecream.  And tonight, to ring in the new year, we went to dinner at Outback and he LOVED dipping his cheese fries into the ranch dressing (yes, he is his father's son)!

Two more months and my baby will be two!

Happy New Year!

Christmas! Family Time, Fun Times

It's been a busy, festive holiday for us!
We went to a family christmas party on Saturday.  Matthew was being super shy and did not want to play with anyone.  Although, he was perfectly content with playing around the column in the dining room.
Family picture with my mom, sister, aunt and cousins.

We spent Christmas Eve at my sister's house.  Matthew was crying in the picture below because grandma got too close to him and he was not happy!  Then he got his banana and was happy again.

We opened presents with my family and Matthew was not interested in any of it.
He got a new jacket and some clothes.

I, on the other hand, was ecstatic about my kitchen gadgets!

(Yea, you know you're old when you're excited about getting kitchen gadgets for christmas).

I got new kitchen shears and a mortar and pestle!  I can't wait to learn how to make papaya salad in it.  All my Lao/Thai friends always make the best papaya salad.
(I think sticky rice, chicken wings, and papaya salad may be on the menu for new year's eve. Ha!)

On Christmas Day, we opened presents at home, then went to Steve's sister's house in Maryland.
Again, Matthew was not interested in his presents.
He got a sippy cup and the book, 'The little blue truck' from Ms.  Melinda (his old babysitter).  Once he opened that, he was pretty much done.

Then we gave him his present....a miniature roller coaster.
He loved it!

It was fun to see him enjoy his present.

He would not stand still so I could take a picture of him in his Christmas shirt!
He just wanted daddy to read his book to him so this is the best picture I could get.

We had a great time with Steve's family too.  I didn't get any decent pictures with them.  :(
We are so blessed to be able to spend time with both our families this holiday.

We look forward to  many more family gatherings in the new year!

Happy Holidays!

Our BIG Family Pictures and Christmas Wishes!

We had family pictures taken last month when Steve's whole family was in town.  My friend is a photographer and she did a great job capturing our (BIG) family of 27!

And here's our Christmas card this year!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL!

We wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday.

Santa!

We took Matthew to see Santa last night.  He was not impressed, even with two candy canes!  He wanted to get down.

These were taken with my iPhone.
We managed to get one picture where he wasn't crying or squirmy.  He doesn't look thrilled, but hey, we'll take what we can get.  I actually like the ones from my iPhone because it really captures how it all went down!

Here's the comparison from last year when he was 10 months.  No tears last year.  He was much more mesmerized than scared.

At what age is it appropriate to tell kids the truth about santa??  We decided to tell Abbey (with her parents permission, of course) the truth about Santa.  We figured she is 9 years old and probably suspects that Santa isn't real.  Right?

Well, at first she put on a brave face and said she already knew that the Santas in the mall weren't real.  Then she told us that the real santa lives at the North Pole.

We tried to tell her again and she started crying.  I felt SO terrible!!

That was all a few weeks ago and since then, I think she has accepted it.  She sent me a text a few days afterwards and said that since Santa wasn't real, that WE needed to buy her everything on her christmas list!  Uh-oh, what have we done?!

We will be having another conversation with her about the true meaning of Christmas!
Here she is with a friend sitting on Santa's lap at our church christmas party.

I guess the moral of the story is 9 years old is NOT the right age to tell them the truth about Santa!

Such a Stud Muffin

Here's Matthew and his {girl} friend in nursery, Anna.
She is the cutest, sweetest little girl.

(I may or may not be plotting their future courtship. ha!)

This picture was taken last week.

And this was taken yesterday.
The third picture just cracks me up! Matthew's giving her the look before he goes in for the kiss.
My little stud muffin.

I showed Matthew the pictures and he says, 'Anna!'

They are so darling!

21 1/2 Months - What Matthew's Been Up To

 No drastic changes.
Matthew is getting smarter and is understanding more and more each day.
He's not as talkative, but I know that every kid is different and develops at different rates.
He acts like an (almost) two year old, complete with tantrums too.

Matthew recently  had to adjust to a new babysitter.  He's still trying to adjust.  He's fine with the sitter if we're not around, but once he see's us, he wants nothing to do with her.  It's only been two weeks so I'm hopeful that he will start to warm up (eventually!).

He's SO over these monthly pictures, but thankfully we only have three  more months to go!  I think he's over taken pictures period!

He continues to crack us up everyday.  I look forward to seeing him do and say funnier things.

Love him to pieces!

Pictures Daddy Doesn't Want Posted

This little crown belongs to his cousin Abbey (when she was younger).  Matthew loves to play with it. ha!  And to top it off, he likes to watch Sofia the First on Disney Jr.

Daddy would prefer him to play with cars and tools! He does play with his trucks and other boy toys too, but I think it's cute that he likes the crown.

This kid cracks me up!
