6 weeks 5 days Ultrasound

I was nervous for our 6 week appointment this morning.  Steve gave me a blessing last night and I felt the love of the Lord in so many ways.

Our appointment this morning went very well.  We saw one good looking flickering heart!  It was amazing to see something so tiny flickering away at 122 bpm (beats per minute).

The RE did find a second sac, but it was really small and there wasn't anything in it.  That was a little hard to hear, but I am so grateful for one healthy growing baby inside me.

I am half way through the first trimester.  I go back in 2 weeks for an 8 week ultrasound.  Then I will be released to my regular OB and the Perinatologist.

My heart is very full.  I keep seeing the image of that tiny little flickering heart and it gives me such hope.  Thank you all for the prayers and kind words.  You've all lifted us up and we continue to count our many blessings.

(I will post the ultrasound pictures tonight.  Just for record keeping purposes because someday, I would like to print the blog out into a book for memory keeping).

Nieces and Nephew Weekend

I had the privilege of watching two of my nieces and my nephew over the weekend.
I'm so use to just watching Abbey so adding two more kids to the mix was a lot of work!

It was so hot on Saturday! (100 degrees)

We went to chick.fil.A for lunch and then I had the crazy idea to go peach picking.  It didn't take us long to fill up our bag, but the heat was exhausting!  We were only out there for about 15 minutes and it was more than enough time before we passed out.

Yummy peach cobler!  Steve doesn't like peaches so I could have easily eaten the whole thing, but I shared it with my neighbor because I knew I would keep eating it if it was left here.

We made cups of 'dirt' (chocolate pudding with crushed oreo crums on top) for dessert with 'worms' at the bottom of each cup.

Abbey found her worm first.  She loved this dessert and requested it again on Sunday after church.

On Sunday, I had to get all three kids dressed for church by myself (Steve has early meetings at church so he always leaves before we do).  Surprisingly, we arrived at church 15 minutes early!  I'm hardly ever on time for church.  Even when it's just me and Abbey.  I don't know how I managed to get three kids and myself ready so fast.

Silly faces!

It was non-stop all weekend.  Kids fighting, feeding them, entertaining them, bathing them, and putting them to bed.  It was a fun weekend, but I was VERY exhausted by Sunday evening.  I admire all the moms out there who do this every day.

Besides the occassional fighting and crying, it was such a joy to hear their laughter fill our home.
I hope they had as much fun as we did.  And I hope they will remember the good times at Aunt Hannah and Uncle Steve's house!

Prayers From Perfect Strangers

Every morning and every night when I say my prayers, I thank Heavenly Father for the life (or lives) that is growing inside me.  I pray that He will continue to watch over them and keep them growing.  And that's all I can do...pray.  I have to constantly remind myself that it is all in His hands.

I still worry though.  Anyone who's had multiple miscarriages knows that the worry never goes away.

I scheduled my six week ultrasound for next Thursday.  The nurse said I should go ahead and schedule an appt with my OB for my 9 wk appt.  Well, I had to find a new OB because my current one no longer does labor and delivery, but he did give me a referral.  I called and schedule that appt, then I started thinking, 'oh my, maybe I should wait before I jump that far ahead?!'  Yikes!  The appt is on the calendar.

Earlier this week I had a friend announce on face.book that she was expecting #3.  It turns out she is as far along as I am.  I was surprised that she would announce it so early!  Is that what normal fertile people do?

We have only told a few close friends (and of course, who ever reads this blog knows).  And only one of my coworkers knows.  She has been praying for us and she shared our news with her good friend.  I received an email from her friend (whom I've never met) and it just made my day.  I am amazed by the kindness and prayers of perfect strangers.  I wanted to share her email and psalms verse.

"I have been praying for you and thinking a lot about you, especially over the last week. I read these verses out of Psalm this morning and thought of you immediately. I thought about the tiny life growing inside you and how God has known this child from the minute of conception. I often ponder on the thought that God knows every thing about our lives from the moment He creates us. What an awesome God we serve. I pray that He will watch over you, your husband and this tiny life that grows day by day. May you have a blessed day."

Psalm 139:13-16
13-16 Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother's womb.
I thank you, High God—you're breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth;
all the stages of my life were spread out before you,
The days of my life all prepared
before I'd even lived one day.

Beta #3, IVF #3

Beta #3, IVF #3 = 3,303  (at 19DP5DT - 19 days past 5 day transfer)

That's a lot of 3's!

No, we're not having triplets.  I don't think the numbers are high enough to be twins either.  I am just happy that the numbers have gone up!  I am 5wks 2 days along.

I go in next Wednesday for an ultrasound!

Thank you for all your prayers!  It means the world to us!

What's a Beta test?

Some of you have asked me about beta numbers and what they mean.  Most (fertile) women who suspect they are pregnant will take a home pregnancy test and call their doctor to let them know.  Their dr will usually have them come in for another urine test or blood work (qualitative beta - explained below).  When you are dealing with infertility, you will always have a quantitative beta blood test.  It's always about the numbers when it comes to infertility.  I found the following explanation on line and thought this would be helpful for those who are unfamiliar with infertility.

Explaining a beta test:

There are two basic types of pregnancy tests -- blood and urine. You will use a urine pregnancy test at home (and even sometimes in your doctor's office) but to get a blood test you generally need to see a healthcare provider or have your blood drawn in a lab on doctor's orders.

The pregnancy hormone, hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), is what both of these types of tests detect. A urine test will tell you that you are or are not pregnant, but a beta hCG blood test can actually give you a number. To muddle the matter some more, there are actually two different types of beta tests -- the qualitative beta hCG is more of a yes or no test, like a urine test, but a quantative beta hCG will give you and your provider a number. Some women have a very small amount of hCG at various points in her cycle but in order to be considered pregnant the number must be above a certain number. This number may vary from lab to lab (or office to office) but often a level above 5 is considered positive.

Who gets a beta?

Not all expectant mothers get a beta hCG test. Many offices do not even require an in-office urine test if you've tested for pregnancy at home, and blood tests are not common in many practices. Some providers only do them in emergencies, such as vaginal bleeding or unusual cramping in early pregnancy.

On the other hand, women who have been working closely with a fertility specialist (called a Reproductive Endocrinologist, or an RE for short) will often have beta tests drawn routinely at the end of a cycle to test for pregnancy. Other women will be a patient in a medical practice where betas are used or can be requested, so it really depends on your medical provider and your insurance policy.

What does the number mean?

By itself, a beta hCG number can tell you if you are pregnant or not. What it cannot tell you is how pregnant you are, such as how far along you are and if everything is growing as it should. What a provider will often do, then, is do a repeat beta test in two days. The comparison of the two numbers will help you and your healthcare provider how your pregnancy is progressing.

Generally, in a healthy pregnancy, the beta hCG number will double itself every 48 hours. This is known as doubling times and can tell you a lot about how your pregnancy is going. For example, if your first beta is 40, your second one two days later should be around 80. A lower number can alert your provider to a possible problem, and a number that is where it should be can help reassure you and your partner that everything is progressing as it should be for now.

It can be hard to not get caught up with the numbers game, particularly if you have experienced one or more losses in the past, but taking it easy and reducing stress should be a high priority for an expectant mother, so try to do your best to think positive thoughts!

(This information was taken directly from this source).

The hCG hormone is measured in milli-international units per milliliter (mIU/ml).

Guideline to hCG levels during pregnancy:

hCG levels in weeks from LMP (gestational age)* :

3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml

4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml (I think I was at 4 weeks when I had my first beta of 761 last week. I need to confirm  the dates with the nurse).

5 weeks LMP: 18 - 7,340 mIU/ml

6 weeks LMP: 1,080 - 56,500 mIU/ml

7 - 8 weeks LMP: 7, 650 - 229,000 mIU/ml

9 - 12 weeks LMP: 25,700 - 288,000 mIU/ml

13 - 16 weeks LMP: 13,300 - 254,000 mIU/ml

17 - 24 weeks LMP: 4,060 - 165,400 mIU/ml

25 - 40 weeks LMP: 3,640 - 117,000 mIU/ml

Non-pregnant females: <5.0 mIU/ml

Postmenopausal females: <9.5 mIU/ml

* These numbers are just a GUIDELINE-- every woman’s level of hCG can rise differently. It is not necessarily the level that matters but rather the change in the level.

(This information is was taken directly from this source).

I hope this information was helpful.  I will post results of our third beta tomorrow once I hear from the nurse.

IVF #3 RESULTS

I went in for my beta test yesterday morning and told the nurse to call our home number and leave the results on our answering machine and we would check it when we got home.  I didn't even POAS during the whole 2WW!!

I was nervous the whole day!  Then when we got home, you would think that checking that answering machine would have been the first thing we did, but it wasn't.  I could see the flashing message light and it just made it even more nerve racking!  We decided we would change out of our work clothes because we wanted to be comfortable when we hear the news.  LOL.

Finally, we changed and went down stairs and hit the play button on the answering machine.

We heard our lovely nurse's voice and I could tell she was smiling from ear to ear.

Our beta #1 came back at 761!  I don't think I've ever had a first beta that high (or any betas that high!). We just held each other, in our comfy clothes, and cried tears of joy!  We go back on Friday for Beta #2.

Our hearts are full of love and gratitude to all of you who have offered prayers on our behalf.  I am so grateful for a Heavenly Father who hears our prayers and has blessed us immensely on this journey.  We are far from being out of the woods so I ask you to continue to keep us in your prayers as we continue on this journey.

*** Disclaimer to all my real life friends - Please do not tell anyone or mention it on my FB wall.  Because if YOU start telling people and something happens, YOU will be responsible for following up with them!  So, you may then ask if I don't want people to know, why post about it on my blog??  Well, because I have wonderful blogging friends who have supported me on this journey and I want to share with them to give them HOPE. This is not an easy journey and we need all the hope and prayers we can get.  Please respect my wishes. Love you all!!***

Nothing Says Summer Like Ice Cream

There's a little Frozen Custard place in our town that has yummy ice cream that doesn't cost an arm and a leg like some of the chain ice cream places (Mag.gie Moos and Col.d Stone).

This is a happening place in the evenings.

We love going and getting our ice cream cones with sprinkles.  My favorite is the Chocolate/Rasberry!

But when it's brutally hot and humid.  You have to eat it fast or it starts to melt!

And when you're done with your ice cream, you can run around and play in the little yard next door.
I love summer days like this!  Making memories and cherishing time together.

Weekend Round Up

I went to see Mamma Mia over the weekend with some friends.  The show was at an outside theater and the weather was perfect!  We went to lunch at Cheese.cake Factory, then headed to the show, then back to Cheese.cake Factory for dessert.  It's always great to spend time with girl friends!

When I got home, Steve and Abbey were waiting for me to go to dinner.  We ended up going to Crac.ker Barrel.  It's not a place we frequent often, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I love the rocking chairs they have in the front.  You can purchase one for $130.  Did you know the mark up on these things are 100%??!! (Someone we know works there and told us that).
A little too expensive for me, but I still like to sit and rock in them.

Abbey and her black eye from the water slide incident.

The loves of my life.

Great weekend with great friends and the loves of my life.

4th of July Weekend

What a great weekend it was.
Abbey came over to 'take care' of me while I was resting from the transfer.
She was quite the caretaker.  I love that little girl to pieces!

We spent the 4th of July at my sister's.
I got to do a baby shoot of my new nephew (pictures to come later).
I love the 4th!
I am so grateful to live in a country with so much freedom.
I am grateful for all the men and women who have fought so that I can have those freedoms.

I am grateful to have my family close by.

Abbey loves playing in the water.
She loves the water slide at her cousin's house.

She loves it so much that she accidently got elbowed in the face after sliding down.
Nice big bruise on her cheek bone.
Her face and eye is really swollen.
But after a while, she got right back on the slide.

We had yesterday off so we went to see Twi.light E.clipse.
Loved it!
Still love Edward!

It was a wonderful weekend!

Transfer Complete

Two little embryo's were transferred.
We had one 'Excellent' embryo and one 'Really Good' embryo. A third one was just okay and the rest of the three stop growing.

I am home resting, grateful for my wonderful husband and all those who have kept us in prayer.

I am praying that these two special embryo's will nestle in and stick around for the next nine months!
